Wildcats Drop Season Opener against Emmanuel College

Johnson & Wales University tipped off their 2011-2012 season on Saturday afternoon when they travelled to Franklin Springs, Georgia to take on the Lions of Emmanuel College.

The contest between both teams would be a defensive stalemate from the opening tip, as each team would put forth valiant efforts on the defensive end of the floor. The Wildcats would remain within striking distance during the entire first half behind an exceptional showing from the free throw line.

Emmanuel College would produce an early lead and manage to cling to it as JWU would on numerous occasions throughout the first half cut into the lead. The Lions would enter halftime with a twelve point lead.

The Wildcats would enter the second half of play with the same defensive mindset that they possessed in the first half, defensively wrecking havoc, and confusing the Lions from Emmanuel College. Johnson & Wales University would go on to cut the Lions lead in half.

Emmanuel College would call timeout and adjust to the defensive pressure the Wildcats were applying, and in return widen their margin back to double figures and eventually go on to record the victory over the visiting Wildcats.

Johnson & Wales University would be paced throughout the game by a trio of talented freshman consisting of Shaquille White, Kevin Jones, and DaShaun Alston.

DaShaun Alston who would lead the Wildcats with fifteen points and Kevin Jones would record six points and pull down eleven rebounds.

Although Johnson & Wales University would drop their first game of the season head coach Dion Lansdale stated after the game, “I believe we played a solid game for our first outing of the season, but I also think that we have to make some drastic changes in order to be successful in our next game”.

JWU looks to rebound on Tuesday evening when they take on cross town rival Barber Scotia College, game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
