Charlotte, NC -The Johnson & Wales Men's and Women's Basketball teams will begin their 2018-2019 basketball seasons this weekend as they host EMAC opponent Clinton College.
The women's game will tip-off at 3:00 PM. The Wildcats are coming off of a USCAA D2 National Championship in 17-18.
Head Coach Jennifer King is looking forward to the first game: "I feel this year's team has a lot of kids who can make plays for us, but we're still relatively young and figuring things out a bit. We have a few questions in some areas heading into this weekend's opening game, but I feel we will be ready to play. Clinton will be a tough test for us right out of the gate, but we look forward to the challenge."
Following the women's game, the men's team will take the court for a 5:00 PM start under new Head Coach Dan Larkin.
According to Larkin, the first game represents a big test for JWU: "We are tremendously excited about the home opener this weekend against Clinton College here in the Wildcat Center. Clinton is a new team to the USCAA coming from the extremely competitive NJCAA Region X. They will be eager to prove themselves and our guys have to be ready for the test. We are working extremely hard every day to create a team identity. Hopefully when the lights come on here Saturday some of that work becomes execution and we can get the job done."
