Greensboro, NC – The Wildcats (1-6) (Ranked 13th in the USCAA D-II Coaches Poll) traveled to Greensboro this afternoon to take on the Pacers of William Peace University in the first of two games they will play during the Daly Seven Hotels Invitational. JWU was unable to secure a win, falling to the Pacers 77-74.
The first half would prove to be the better half for the Wildcats. Early strong offensive play by Robbie Sterling and Kindrick Anderson pushed JWU to take the lead, 15-13. Michael Daniel sparked a 13-0 run for the Wildcats, pressing their advantage to fifteen at 28-13. JWU became inconsistent on offense and at the free throw line, but was able to carry their 15 point lead into halftime behind strong 3-point shooting. The Wildcats went into the half up 42-27.
The Pacers started the second half with a 7-0 run, closing the gap on JWU. The Wildcats allowed WPU to get back into the game with turnovers and defensive lapses. The Pacers used a 10-2 run to overtake the Wildcats, and expand their lead to 69-61. JWU responded late with an 8-0 run to tie the score at 69, with 2:10 remaining. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to close, as WPU took the game 74-77.
The Wildcats were led by Michael Daniel with 18 points. Robbie Sterling followed with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Kendrick Anderson and Daniel also contributed 8 rebounds apiece.
The Wildcats will have a short break before returning to the court tomorrow at 1pm for their final game of the tournament. Their opponent will be determined after final game played this evening.
