2012-2013 Mens Basketball Season Has Begun!
Charlotte, NC - Mens Basketball try-outs were held September 13-15 in the Johnson & Wales gymnasium. Many students tried out, but only a selected few were chosen to play on the varsity and junior varsity teams. Practices are now underway as the teams prep for the upcoming season. The varsity team has 32 games scheduled for the 2012-2013 season. Your first chance to check out both teams will be at the Blue-Gold Scrimmage as part of Family Weekend. The scrimmage will take place at 3pm on Saturday, October 20th in the gym. The varsity Wildcats begin the regular season with 3 games in as many days in the Jim Ganey Classic at Emmanuel (Ga.) College. The first home game will be on Wednesday, November 14th in the JWU Student Center Gymnasium against Emmanuel. Tipoff is set for 7pm. Highlights of the schedule include road contests against North Carolina Central and Coastal Carolina, as well as home-and-home series versus Barber-Scotia, Toccoa Falls, Mid-Atlantic Christian, and Piedmont International. JWU will also host it's first ever tournament, the JWU Invitational on Jan 18 and 19, 2013. Participating teams are Warren Wilson, DeVry(Pa.) and Valor Christian.
The junior varsity team will play 11 games, all at home, highlighted by 4 games in 12 days to start the season. Their first game is Oct. 30 versus Moravian Prep.
