Charlotte, NC - Rickey Porter posted a game high 26 points and 17 rebounds as the #18 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team claimed a 75-59 victory over #17 Warren Wilson College on Tuesday at the Wildcat Center.
Porter did the majority of his damage in the second half for the Wildcats (4-8), scoring 19 points in the final 20 minutes to help the Wildcats claim a crucial win over a ranked opponent. The senior forward finished 10-for-20 from the field.
Kenrick Nesbit was the lone player to reach double figures for Warren Wilson (5-11), scoring 19 points off the bench.
Both teams were playing their first games since the Christmas break and struggled to find their rhythms early on. Both Johnson & Wales and Warren Wilson shot an identical 8-for-29 from the field in a first half that was energetic but occasionally sloppy.
The Wildcats dominated the visitors at the free throw line, shooting 28-of-37 from the charity stripe while Warren Wilson finished just 6-of-14.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Thursday at the Suns Classic in Kissimmee, FL, when they play Grace Bible College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted by Johnson University.
