Swannanoa, NC - Freshman guard Chris Greer scored a career high 20 points, helping the Johnson & Wales men's basketball team snap an eight-game skid with an 85-84 victory at USCAA #15 Warren Wilson College.
Greer, making only his second start of the season, connected on six three-pointers to lead the Wildcats (8-18) past their in-state rivals.
Johnson & Wales has had trouble holding on to leads during their losing streak, and that trend nearly cost them again in Swannanoa.
A pair of free throws by Porter with 2:45 remaining gave the Wildcats a commanding 85-76 lead. However, the Owls quickly responded with an 8-0 run over the next 80 seconds to pull within one.
Porter had a chance to extend the narrow lead with seven seconds remaining, but missed both free throws, giving the Owls a chance at a game-winner.
A running effort by Warren Wilson's Steven Horton with two second remaining rimmed out, ensuring the Wildcats would return to Charlotte with the narrow win.
Marques Sullivan came off the bench to lead the Owls with 17 points in the losing effort.
Johnson & Wales will look to build momentum on Friday when they host College of Faith. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
