Charlotte, N.C. - Majerle Poole scored 29 points in a losing effort as the USCAA #16 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team fell 103-87 to Carolina Christian on Wednesday.
Poole finished 12-of-20 from the floor for Johnson & Wales (2-5), who have now dropped five in a row. Kajuan Madden-McAfee added 19 points for the Wildcats while Alcyone Moore came off the bench to finish with 11 points.
The teams were neck-and-neck throughout most of the game, with Johnson & Wales trailing 60-59 with 13:13 to go after a pair of free throws by Caleb Coleman. Carolina Christian would respond with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to establish its first double digit lead of the game.
Johnson & Wales managed to claw back to within five points with 3:47 remaining, as a dunk by Moore made it 87-82. However, Carolina Christian would outscore their hosts 16-5 the rest of the way to seal the victory.
Carolina Christian was led by Austin Robinson and Artavius Love, who posted 32 points and 31 points, respectively. Love added a game high 11 rebounds and six assists as well.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Saturday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to play NCAA Division I program Wofford College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
