Wildcats Come Up Short Against Montreat

Charlotte, N.C. - A career night by junior Christian Creswell wasn't enough as the Johson & Wales men's basektball team lost 89-80 to the NAIA foe Montreat College at the Wildcat Center on Monday.

Creswell scored 19 points and chipped in with nine rebounds for the Wildcats (2-7), connecting on 9-of-14 from the field to lead the way.

Kajuan Madden-McAfee added 16 points for Johnson & Wales while Alcyone Moore (12 points) and Robert Hobson (11 points) also reached double figures.

Johnson & Wales trailed most of the game and were behind as many as 13 points midway through the second half.  However, a 10-0 run, capped by a three-pointer by Madden-McAfee with just under six minutes to go cut the lead to one.  Shortly thereafter, a pair of Malik Bullock free throws with 4:21 remaining gave the Wildcats a 72-71 lead, their first since early in the game.

Montreat managed to ramp up the defensive pressure down the stretch, limiting Johnson & Wales to just one field goal in the final three minutes.  This allowed the visitors to escape with the victory and send the Wildcats to their seventh straight defeat.

Zachary Davis came off the bench to lead Montreat with 19 points on the evening.

Johnson & Wales will play their final game before the holiday break on Thursday when it travels to Charleston, S.C., to play NCAA Division I opponent Charleston Southern.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
