Charlotte, N.C. - The USCAA #17 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team picked up arguably its biggest win of the season thus far, defeating #6 Warren Wilson 106-102 at the Wildcat Center on Wednesday.
The Wildcats (7-13) avenged a five-point loss to the Owls earlier in the year and are now winners of three in a row heading into the final stretch of the season.
Six players reached double figures in scoring for Johnson & Wales, with Majerle Poole and Malik Bullock each leading the way with 22 points and six assists a piece. Robert Hobson (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Alcyone Moore (15 points, 11 rebounds) both finished with a double-doubles for the Wildcats.
The game was a true back-and-forth affair, featuring 18 lead changes and 13 ties. Neither team led by more than eight at any point throughout the game.
Ultimately, the game was decided by free throws. Warren Wilson missed on the back end of a pair with 1:02 remaining, while Johnson & Wales would go on to connect on all six of its attempts in the final minute to seal the victory.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they host in-state USCAA rival Mid-Atlantic Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Center.
