Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales closed out the season with a hard faught 86-80 win over St. Andrews on Monday night. It was the final game for seniors Alcyone Moore and James Veal, and the Wildcats (10-15) made several plays down the stretch to emerge victorious.
JWU rolled to an 11 point halftime lead behind 57% shooting from the field, including 9-16 from behind the three point line. Robert Hobson scored 15 of his 17 points in that stanza.
The Wildcats would extend the lead to as many as 16, at 67-51 in the first 11 minutes of the second half. A bevy of JWU turnovers, plus four 3's from Saint Andrew's Christian Lathan led to the Knights (4-20) knotting the score at 72 with just over four minutes to play. The Wildcats then scored on four consecutive possessions, led by Kajuan Madden-McAfee, to pull ahead for good. JWU conveted 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to keep St. Andrews at bay.
Moore led five Wildcats in double-figures with 20 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Hobson added 6 rebounds and 4 assists to his 17 points. Madden-McAfee had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Christian Creswell also tallied 15 points in addition to grabbing 6 rebounds. Brandon Kostyk finished with 12 points.
Lathan led the way for St. Andrews with 20 points, including 6-9 three pointers.
