Men's Basketball Opens Season With Conference Win

Charlotte, NC - Johnson & Wales University Men's Basketball Team tipped off their first game of the season on Saturday as they hosted EMAC opponent Clinton College. The Wildcats delivered Head Coach Dan Larkin a win in his Wildcat coaching debut, 71-63.

Clinton (0-1) would get out to an 8 point lead in the first half, but JWU would battle back and take the game into halftime tied at 35. The second half saw the two teams trade buckets in a close contest until Jackson Baylark put the Wildcats (1-0) up 49-47 with 13:23 to go in the game. JWU never looked back from there, stretching the lead to as much as 13 points before finishing with the 8 point victory.

"Proud of our team tonight as they played extremely hard against a very talented conference opponent. When we play our style of basketball on both ends of the floor we will be able compete at a high level."

Kajuan Madden-McAfee and Majerle Poole both scored 17 points to pace the Wildcats. Malik Bullock led the Wildcats with 6 rebounds and Robert Hobson paced the team with 4 assists.

JWU returns to action on Nov. 6 when they host Piedmont International University for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
