Men's Soccer Ends Regular Season With Road Victory

Virginia Beach, VA - The Johnson & Wales University Men's Soccer Team finished their regular season on Friday with a 5-2 victory.

Regent (3-12-1) opened the scoring with a long range shot, but shortly after JWU would respond as Chris Garcia found Sam Fanning who blasted a long range shot into the back side netting. The 1-1 score would hold through halftime.

In the second half, a Royals free kick deflected off the wall past JWU keeper Julio Pena. The Wildcats would again answer quickly, as Pablo Morera found Tito Villanueva on the counter attack to tie the game 2-2. The deadlock continued until a Regent red card put the #1 Wildcats up a man with 15 minutes to play. Fanning found Geiger for the winning goal with 12 minutes left, and a Chance Wiginton goal on Mo Baskaron's corner kick stretched the lead to 4-2. Shortly before full-time, Chris Garcia earned a penalty kick and cooly slotted it home to finish the scoring, 5-2.

Head Coach Matt Payne on the game: "Regent has really improved as a team, and they took the game to us for long stretches. I was really proud of how the guys responded, and I'm excited to take this great group of young men to nationals next week."

JWU will next take the field in the USCAA D2 National Championships. The Wildcats are scheduled for Nov. 9th and 10th against SUNY-ESF and King's (NY), respectively.
