Women's Basketball Puts on Defensive Clinic in Convincing Win Over Piedmont International

Charlotte, NC - The USCAA #13 Johnson & Wales women's basketball team forced 32 turnovers and held visiting Piedmont International to just 18 percent shooting in a lopsided 97-25 victory on Tuesday at the Wildcat Center.

Vanderia Shackleford scored a game high 20 points for the Wildcats (11-6), who set numerous program records on the evening including largest margin of victory (72), most points scored in a half (53), fewest points allowed in a half (six), and victories in a season (11).

Johnson & Wales was dominant from the start, jumping out to a 20-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 53-6 advantage by halftime.  The held Piedmont International to less than 10 percent shooting in the first half, with the visitors connecting on just 2-of-21 attempts from the floor.

The Wildcats would lead by as many as 73 points with just over six minutes remaining in the game.

Anaja Matthews finished with 13 points and seven steals while Shannon Martin also finished with 13 points.  Ineesha Hankerson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Bianca Covington also reached double figures with 11 points.

Zyniah Kelser led Piedmont International with 12 points.

The Wildcats will resume play on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when they host Warren Wilson College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
