Women's Basketball Romps to Chesson Title as Shackleford Reaches 1,000

Elizabeth City, NC - Junior Vanderia Shackleford became the first player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau as the USCAA #13 Johnson & Wales women's basketball team defeated #18 Mid-Atlantic Christian 82-55 in the final of the Chesson Classic on Saturday.

Shackleford finished with a team high 15 points on the day to lead Johnson & Wales to the title and earn a selection on the All-Tournament Team.

She was joined by senior center Donyelle Stuetley, who scored 14 points in her final appearance for the Wildcats (15-6).  Stuetley was named Tournament MVP for her efforts.

Johnson & Wales has been dominant over their past five games, winning by an average of 37 points each game, and Saturday was no different.

They held the host Mustangs to just 20-of-65 shooting on the day, opening up a 10 point lead by halftime and never looking back.

Freshman forward Ineesha Hankerson finished with 10 points for the Wildcats.

Aleah McNeal scored a game high 21 points for Mid-Atlantic Christian.

Johnson & Wales has won 10 of 11 since New Year's Day and finish their season with the best winning percentage (.714) and most wins (15) in a season in the program's young history.

The team also won five road games this year, equalling the total number of road wins the previous two seasons.
