Charlotte, N.C. - NCAA Division I South Carolina State claimed an 86-40 victory over the USCAA #2 Johnson & Wales women's basketball team on Thursday at the Wildcat Center.
Johnson & Wales (8-4) struggled to contain the Bulldogs, as four different starters reached double figures in scoring for South Carolina State (5-5). Esther Udonsi led all scorers with 22 points on the evening for the visitors.
The Wildcats struggled to mount any consistent offense, with no players reaching double figures and the team committing 33 turnovers while posting just six assists. South Carolina State took advantage, outscoring Johnson & Wales 40-11 on points off of turnovers. Chase Muhammad and Eufrasia Harris each scored seven points to lead the Johnson & Wales.
South Carolina State set the tone early, jumping out to a 13-0 lead and stretching the advantage to 29-9 by the end of the first quarter.
They held Johnson & Wales to just 17-of-53 shooting on the night while connecting on over 50 percent of their own shots.
The Wildcats will enjoy a layoff over the holiday break and will return to action on Jan. 11 when they host Columbia International University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Center.
