On-Campus Try - Outs Turn Out To Be Extremely Beneficial

The women's volleyball team of Johnson & Wales University recently completed their on campus try-out sessions for 2011-2012 team.

At the conclusion of the sessions, Head Coach Callie Phillips found four new players she believes can be major assets in the upcoming season for the Wildcats.

Callie Phillips stated, "I am thrilled that we located athletes of this talent level already on our campus through this tryout. We are looking to build on last year's performance, and these players will certainly help us in this effort."

All four players are just as excited for the opportunity.

Kyra Brock, Sabriya Huggins, Chelsi Gallagher, and Shelby Spera all look to make immediate impacts on the team during the upcoming 2011-2012 season.

After evaluating the new incoming players, Coach Phillips expressed her feelings about each new Wildcat.

"Kyra has a very powerful serve that will provide another offensive weapon for us. Her ability to play various positions will be an asset as well."

"Sabriya's height and athleticism are very promising.  She has already begun to work on her blocking and attacking skills, and we hope she will contribute on the front row."

"Chelsi has many attributes that make her a good setter.  She is tall, smart, and plays good defense.  She definitely helps fill a need on our team."

"Shelby has a strong volleyball knowledge base and can contribute to our team in various areas.  She gives us another hitter, and we are looking to improve our offense from last year."

With the additions of these new players to the core from last year's team, the team is eager to get back on the floor and compete.

As the academic year comes to an end, the Wildcats are still preparing as they are currently practicing once a week as their season opens in mid-August.
