Wildcats Prevail Over the Tigers of Edward Waters College

JWU went into the second match of the day with the hopes of bringing home a win to the Tigers of Edward Waters College. With much success, the Wildcats won the match 3-0.

The Wildcats got off to a slow start and fell behind early in game one due to poor court communication. Coach Phillips called a timeout midway through game one, with her team down by 6 points, to settle the Wildcats.  JWU responded by eventually closing game one with an 11-1 run. Throughout game one the Wildcats were led by excellent service plays by Kristin Hall and Shanna Stewart. The Wildcats won game one 25-20.

Stewart carried her momentum into game two and was strong at the net early on to help the Wildcats to a 6 point lead. Stewart and Hall continued strong serving as the Wildcats went on a 7-1 run during their service to increase their lead, eventually winning game two 25-10.

The Wildcats had it all working early in game three. They quickly built a 10 point lead midway through the game. The Tigers would respond by going on two separate 4-0 runs to close the gap. However, Coach Phillips would stop each of those runs by calling timeouts to refocus her team. The Wildcats took game three 25-25.

The Wildcats won the match to the Tigers 3 games to 0.

You can catch the Wildcats at their next away match when they take on Surry Community College on October 4th at 7:00pm or at their next home match on October 6th, when they play Winston Salem State University at 7:00pm.
