JWU Volleyball Rebounds at Rockingham CC with 3-1 Win

Wentworth, NC - The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team claimed its first victory of the 2017 season on Tuesday, winning in four sets at Rockingham Community College by the scores of 32-30, 22-25, 25-11, 25-15.

Jamie Hay led the Wildcats (1-2) with 12 kills on the night, helping the team rebound from a pair of losses at Toccoa Falls College this past weekend.

"It was a good team win tonight," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "We made some costly mistakes early, but we were able to regroup and play more efficiently to earn the win. I'm happy with our progress from the weekend to today, and I look forward to taking another step tomorrow."

Moana Reid paced Johnson & Wales with 19 assists while Johmillet Berrios recorded five aces.  Kendall Watson and Halle Franklin led the defensive effort with 17 and 16 digs, respectively.

Toniya Scott proved to be a force at the net with three blocks and five block assists.

The Wildcats resume play Tuesday night when they travel to Columbia, SC, to play Allen University.  Play is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
