Volleyball Tops John Wesley to Win Fourth Straight

Charlotte, N.C. - The USCAA #5 Johnson & Wales University volleyball team won its fourth straight contest on Thursday, holding off John Wesley University in four sets by the scores of 31-29, 26-24, 19-25, 25-23 at the Wildcat Center.

Three different players finished in double digits in kills for the Wildcats (9-8), including Tiy Gonzalez (13), Johmillet Berrios (13), and Toniya Scott (11).

With the victory, Johnson & Wales has eclipsed the .500 mark for the first time this season.

"This is a very nice win for us," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "John Wesley is a quality team, and we fought hard to earn this victory tonight.  We are continuing to improve with each outing and are consistently implementing some skills to keep us playing at a high level.  Our defense was outstanding tonight, and that made way for us to be aggressive on offense.  We earned another team win tonight."

Moana Reid finished with 24 assists for the Wildcats while Halle Franklin added 16 of her own.  Kendall Watson finished with a team high 28 digs.

The team will resume play on Saturday when it hosts Rockingham County Community College and Wake Tech Community College.  Play is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
