Monaca, PA - Johnson & Wales University's Women's Volleyball Team finished a strong showing at the USCAA Tip-Off Tournament today. The team advanced to the semifinals where they faced USCAA D1 opponent University of Maine at Fort Kent. JWU took one set but fell in the end, 3-1. The Wildcats (5-1) were the only USCAA D2 team to reach the semifinals. The impressive tournament for JWU included wins over Christendom and Penn State Beaver.
The Bengals (3-1) handed JWU their first loss of the season, but Head Coach Callie Phillips sees a clear path forward. "We played well in spots, but we made a few too many errors to get the result we wanted. We will learn from those mistakes as we move forward and use them to get better. Overall, we've had a good weekend together, and we are looking forward to our home opener on Tuesday."
Four players registered double digit digs, including Kendall Watson (38), Keri Ketchie (16), Toniya Scott (15), and Halle Franklin (13). Moana Reid registered a team high 40 assists. Toniya Scott (10), Iyana Favor (9), and Jamie Hay (9) led the Wildcats in kills.
The Wildcats play their first home match on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 7:00pm against NCAA team Livingstone College.
