Raleigh, NC - JWU's Women's Volleyball team split their matches on Day 2 of the Eagle Invitational hosted by Wake Tech. The Wildcats exit the weekend with a record of 8-4.
The first match of the day saw the Wildcats defeat Walters State, 3-2. After taking the first two sets 25-18 in both sets. The Senators (6-5) battled back to even the match at two sets apiece, but JWU took the fifth set, 15-9. It was the eighth victory of the season for the Wildcats. Tiy Gonzalez (11), Jamie Hay (10), and Iyana Favor (10) all contributed double digit kills. Moana Reid led the team with 38 assists. Kendall Watson had 36 digs to lead JWU.
JWU took on Richard Bland College (8-4) in the second match. It was the fourth match in 24 hour span, and the Wildcats dropped the match to the Statesmen, 3-0. Kendall Watson again led the team in digs, this time with 11. Moana Reid paced the team with 18 assists.
Head Coach Callie Phillips reflected on the weekend: "We are grateful for the opportunity to play against some really good competition this weekend. We learned a lot about ourselves and how we can improve our play in preparation for our future matches."
The volleyball team is next in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Livingstone College. The scheduled game time is 7:00 pm.
