Uniontown, PA – Johnson & Wales University basketball players Rickey Porter and Vanderia Shackleford were honored for the second consecutive year as First Team All-American and Second Team All-American, respectively, at the USCAA Basketball National Championships banquet on Tuesday.
Both Porter and Shackleford have earned All-American honors each of the past three years, with the duo each earning Honorable Mention honors in 2014-2015. No other player in men's or women's basketball history have earned more than one All-American award.
Porter, who also earned National Player of the Year honors in the 2015-2016 season, improved
upon his stats this year as he led the Wildcats with 21.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. The Charlotte native ends his career as the program's all-time leading scorer, tallying 1,660 points in just three seasons.
Shackleford, a junior guard, led the women's basketball team to its best season ever with a record
The Atlanta, GA, native averaged 15.2 points per game and 6.3 rebounds, becoming the first player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.
Meanwhile, men's basketball sophomore forward Christian Creswell earned selection to the 2017 USCAA Basketball National All-Academic Team, an honor awarded to student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher with at least a 3.5 GPA.
Creswell, a native of Shelby, NC, 5.8 points per game for the Wildcats this season along with 4.1 rebounds.
