Charlotte, NC - The Johnson and Wales University Department of Athletics hosted a group of local youth on Saturday, March 24th, for it
's second annual All Sports Day.
The event, held in conjunction with Charlotte organization Trips For Kids, was a huge success in 2017 and was designed to help inspire youth
s in the local community through the use of sports and education as a means to promote opportunities and the tools for success.
A host of student-athletes from the soccer, volleyball and basketball team
's, along with their coaches and volunteers from Trips For Kids, were excited to welcome groups from multiple area schools and a girl scout troop onto the campus. They spent time providing sport specific instruction and play to the group of young people, at the same time sharing the passion for the sports they love.
"I honestly couldn't tell you who had more fun - the student-athletes or the kids," said Head Women's Soccer Coach Matt Hisler. "Everybody did a great job of making the day enjoyable and educational, while the kids looked like they were having an absolute blast!"
Finding that balance of enjoyment and education was an important part of the day, with each team taking the time to teach a life lesson on topics which are not only relevant to children today, but also part of the foundation that Johnson and Wales University is built on - Acceptance, Acknowledge, Action & Achieve.
To complete the day's activities, the groups from Cotswold Elementary, Alexander Graham Middle School, Pinewood Elementary, and Rama Road Elementary's Girl Scout Troop 5301, were given a tour of the Uptown campus and a tutorial from the talented culinary department on preparing tasty and nutritious snacks.
Everybody involved from Johnson and Wales University would like to thank Trips For Kids for collaborating with our Athletic, Culinary and Admissions departments and look forward to continuing the growth of this event in future.
