Mt. Olive, NC - Johnson & Wales had two basketball players named to the 2019 NCCSIA All-State teams that were announced on Thursday. With the announcement, 2018-2019 marks the first year in school history that at least one member of each of the five varsity sports teams earned All-State honors in the same year.
Junior forward Ineesha Hankerson was selected to the NCCSIA College Division All-State 1st Team for the second consecutive year. The Charlotte native led the Wildcats in scoring (16.8ppg) and rebounding (11.3rpg). She also set single season school records for points (437), field goals made (167), field goal % (59.6), rebounds (295), and blocks (46). She was selected as a USCAA 1st Team All-American, and was also named to the USCAA National Championships All-Tournament Team.
Robert Hobson, a junior forward from Huntersville, garnered 2nd Team All-State College Division honors in men's basketball. Hobson posted career highs in points (17.4) and rebounds (4.2) per game in 2018-19. He also led the Wildcats in assists, dishing out 3.2 per contest. Nationally, he led the USCAA in 3 point field goals made with 108. He was selected as an USCAA 2nd Team All-American and was also named to the USCAA National Championships All-Tournament Team.
The NCCSIA, founded in 2002, is comprised of sports information professionals at colleges and universities throughout North Carolina, and includes in its membership NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA, USCAA and independent schools. The NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (all other divisions) in men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball, and baseball. Nominations for all-state teams are submitted by member sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.
