Lynchburg, VA – The Wildcats (1-8) (Ranked 13th in the USCAA D-II Coaches Poll) played the first of two games in as many days before the Thanksgiving break as they traveled to Randolph College (3-0) to take on another group of Wildcats. JWU was able to overcome one cold shooting stretch, but not two as Randolph pulled away in the second half to win 77-54.
Taylor Thomas staked JWU to an early 3-0 lead as he hit the first shot of the game from deep. The Wildcats would surrender the next 12 points to Randolph, before a Gregory Wright basket and Joshua Cohen 3-pointer brought JWU back to within four at 12-8. Randolph would run off the next 13 points to build their biggest lead of the half, 23-8. The Wildcats dug in defensively, limiting Randolph to just four points over the next five minutes. JWU scored 14 of their own points during this stretch, 7 of which by way of Kindrick Anderson, to claw back into the game with 5 minutes left in the half at 27-22. When Cohen stole and errant Randolph pass and turned it into a layup on the other end, JWU had tied the score at 29 with just over a minute left in the half. Randolph would score on their last possession of the half to take a slim two point lead into the locker room.
JWU was able to remain in contact with Randolph through the first six minutes of the second half before the homestanding Wildcats would use their interior advantage to distance themselves. Randolph went on a 15-0 run over the next 4:44 to turn the game into a rout. Any time the JWU would mount a charge, Randolph's Colton Hunt would personally ensure that his team would remain comfortably ahead. Hunt would score a game-high 25 points on 7-12 shooting and went a perfect 9-9 at the charity stripe.
JWU was led in both scoring and rebounding by Kindrick Anderson with 12 and 8, respectively. Joshua Cohen added 12 points, while Jay Keller posted 11 points. Adarius Davis, Mario Irby, Taylor Thomas, and Robbie Sterling each collected 4 rebounds. The Wildcats are back at it again tomorrow night as they travel to Conway, SC to take on Division 1 foe Coastal Carolina. Tip time is 7pm.
