Greensboro, NC – The Wildcats (1-10) took to the road again Monday night, traveling to Greensboro to take on the Pride of Greensboro College. Greensboro used a 27-5 run midway through the first half to pull away, and eventually won 85-65.
JWU got off to a quick start, making 4 of thier first 6 shots to take and early 10-6 lead. Greensboro answered the Wildcat surge in the next few minutes, edging ahead before a Mario Irby jumper knotted the score at 14 with just over fourteen minutes remaining. The Wildcats would go cold, scoring only five points over the next ten minutes. The Pride took full advantage, reeling off 27 points of their own during that stretch, and took a 45-25 lead into intermission.
The Wildcats were able to play even with the Pride in the second half, despite falling behind by as many as 35 at one point. Jay Keller scored 14 of his career-high 25 points. Keller made 8 of his 14 shots on the night, including 5 of 8 from three point range. Taylor Thomas added 9 to the JWU cause, but the Wildcats were unable to overcome a scoreless night from leading scorer Kindrick Anderson. Robbie Sterling led JWU on the boards with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. The Wildcats actually outshot the Pride from the field (40.4% - 39.2%) and 3 point range (40.0&% -31.8%), but were outrebounded by 21 (56-35).
The Wildcats are next in action at home, on Wednesday, November 28th. JWU will take on the Lions of Piedmont College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
