Charlotte, NC – Johnson & Wales (5-16) hosted Moravian Prep this afternoon in the final game of the JWU Invitational. The Wildcats were looking to bounce back after losing to Valor Christian College yesterday. Unfortunately, the hot shooting Lions were too much for the Wildcats, winning 103-90.
The first five minutes of the game were a back and forth affair, as each team pushed tempo and were able to find easy scoring opportunities. After a Mario Irby jumper tied the score at 16, Moravian prep went on a 12-1 run to take a 29-17 lead with 12:49 left. Two Jay Keller free throws pulled the Wildcats to within 5 at 36-31 with nine minutes left. It would be as close as JWU would get for the rest of the half. Zach Jones scored 13 of the final 15 points of the half, as Moravian Prep extended their lead to 47-33 at the break.
The second half would prove to be much like the first as Moravian Prep continued their hot shooting. They would extend their lead to as much as 27 points at 84-57 at the 11:14 mark. The Wildcats tried to claw back into it, but it was too little too late. Moravian wrapped up their 103-90 win with a Logan Schmitt jumper just before the final buzzer.
Four Wildcats finished in double figures, led by Jay Keller's 17. Joshua Cohen added 16, while Mario Irby and Michael Daniel finished with 13 each. Cohen collected 10 rebounds, while Daniel and Kareem Wilson grabbed 7 each.
The Wildcats are next in action on Tuesday, 1/22 as they travel to Winston-Salem to take on Piedmont International. Tip time is 7:30pm.
