Buies Creek, NC - 18th ranked Johnson & Wales (5-12) took on Campbell (5-7) in their final game of 2013. The Wildcats, depsite missing leading scorer DeQuincey Bennett, hung tough with the Camels for a half, but ultimately fell, 95-64.
The Wildcats trailed by only 1, 19-18 after the first 10 minutes of the game, but a 16-4 spurt over the next six minutes gave the Camels a 13 point advantage. They would carry that 13 point lead into halftime at 45-32. JWU was able to hang in the game by shooting 42% from the field and forcing 11 Camel turnovers in the first half.
After Nick Crawford opened the 2nd half scoring with a layup, Campbell used a 14-4 run to stake themselves to a 59-38 lead with 13:25 left. The Camels would never be threatened from there, and cruised to the thirty-one point win. The halftime deficit of 12, and final deficit of 31 are the lowest for the Wildcats against a D-I team.
Kindrick Anderson led JWU in scoring with 16 points. Hursel Forbes converted 8 of 11 free throws on his way to 12 points, while Julian McCants knocked down 3 three's for 9 points. Duane Chisholm battled on the glass to lead the team in rebounds with 5.
The Wildcats are off for nineteen days before returning to action January 9th as they host local USCAA rival Barber-Scotia. Tip time is set for 7:30pm.
