Charlotte, NC - 18th ranked Johnson & Wales (5-12) returns from an extended holiday break to host local USCAA foe Barber-Scotia (0-17) on Thursday, Jan. 9th at 7:30pm. The teams split their games last season, with each winning on the other's home court. The Wildcats won an overtime thriller, and Barber-Scotia took a hard fought, hotly contested affair in the Student Center.
A young Barber-Scotia team enters the game winless on the season. Their previously scheduled game at Winthrop was postponed due to travel issues several of the Sabre players had getting back from the Northeast. The Sabres are led in scoring by Carlos Benton, who averages 15.5 ppg. Joel Barnes leads Barber-Scotia on the glass, collecting 5 rebounds per contest, while DeQuan Horn hands out 2.42 assists per game.
The Wildcats come into the game off a loss to NCAA D-I opponent Campbell 95-64. JWU trailed by only 13 at the break, but the Camels shot 61% in the second half to pull away. They return to the friendly confines of the Student Center, where they are 4-2 so far this season. The Wildcats have 4 players that average double-figures, DeQunicey Bennett (16.9), Kindrick Anderson (13.6), Joshua Cohen (12.8), and Nick Crawford (10.6). Crawford also leads the Wildcats in rebounds per game (6.4) and assists per game (4.2)
