Charlotte, NC -- The USCAA Division II National Coaches Polls were released today, and both Wildcat basketball teams earned rankings in the first edition of the polls. A committee of association coaches from regions throughout the country votes on the rankings, considering win-loss record, strength of schedule, USCAA power rankings, head-to-head match-ups, common opponents, and score diffential.
With a 2-1 record in the USCAA and the only loss coming to fifth-ranked Penn State Fayette, the men's basketball team is currently ranked #13. The Wildcats benefited from a strong schedule against several NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II opponents. Games against the other JWU campuses this weekend will prove crucial to improving this ranking. They also have games against #9 Warren Wilson and USCAA foe Barber-Scotia in January.
With a 3-0 record in the USCAA, the women's basketball team appears in its first-ever poll at #20. The Lady Wildcats are an unknown in the USCAA as this is their first season on the court, but they will have the opportunity to climb the rankings with good showings in the JWU Cup and with later match-ups with #12 Warren Wilson and Barber-Scotia.
JWU congratulates both teams on cracking the first polls!
