Durham, NC -- The Johnson & Wales Basketball Team took on an impressive group from North Carolina Central University Tuesday evening. With competitive games against The University of North Carolina, Creighton University, and The University of Cincinnati already under their belts, NCCU played solid team basketball and overpowered the Wildcats, who were playing without three regular players, by a score of 101-38.
The Eagles played smothering defense and held JWU to 16% shooting on the night. The Wildcats tried to stay in the game by shooting from outside, but they did not have much luck there as well as they managed only 12.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Comparatively, North Carolina Central University shot 68.5% overall and was 57.1% from three-point range. 22 turnovers in the game also caused problems for the Wildcats.
JWU (4-5) was led by Rickey Porter with 12 points, and Tramain Parker added 7 points and 4 rebounds. The Wildcats will get right back on the court tomorrow evening when they visit Averett University in Danville, VA. Game time is 7:30 PM.
