Charlotte, NC -- The Johnson & Wales Wildcat Basketball Team won in fantastic fashion tonight as they withstood a furious charge from the College of St. Joseph Saints and scored a three-point shot from beyond halfcourt from David Bargamento to take home the win. JWU led by as many as 19 points in the second half, but the Saints would not go quietly and found a way to tie the game in the last seconds after cutting the lead to three points and two points on several occasions. The Wildcats maintained their composure, though, and got off a final shot to win the game 94-91.
JWU had five players in double-figures, with DeQuincey Bennett leading the way with 18 points. Rickey Porter (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Nick Crawford (11 points, 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles for the Wildcats. Josh Cohen added 14 points, and David Bargamento used his end-of-the-game heroics to finish the game with 13 points.
The Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season and can celebrate tonight, but their focus must turn to Penn State -- Fayette, their opponent for Saturday. The Roaring Lions defeated Warren Wilson College 88-65 earlier Friday and are now 1-0 on the season. Game time Saturday is 7:00 PM.
