Parker, Porter, and Shackleford Earn USCAA Honors - Coach Casciano Named Division II Coach of the Year

Uniontown, PA -- As part of National Championship Week, the USCAA held its annual banquet Tuesday evening to distribute awards for athletes and coaches for the 2014-2015 basketball season.  Wildcat players Tramain Parker, Rickey Porter, and Vanderia Shackleford received All-American honors, and Coach Jim Casciano was named Division II Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.

Tramain Parker was named to the USCAA Division II All-American Second Team.  Since joining the team in December, Parker has been a catalyst to the Wildcats' success in winning the JWU Cup and posting a 12-2 after the holiday break.  A proven scorer, he can also handle the ball, distribute to teammates, block shots, and pull down rebounds for the team.  Parker is tied for the team lead with 15 points per game and leads the team in blocks with 1.6 per game.  He is also in the top three on the team in assists, rebounds, and three-point shooting percentage.

Rickey Porter received USCAA Division II All-American Honorable Mention.  Porter has been the team's workhorse all year long.  Porter is an integral part of the Wildcat offense as he moves well without the ball and collapses defenses to create opportunities for himself and his teammates.  He is tied with Tramain Parker for the team lead with 15 points per game and is also leads the Wildcats with 6.9 rebounds per game.

Vanderia Shackleford received USCAA Division II All-American Honorable Mention as well.  In the women's program's first year, she led the team in scoring with 13.4 points per game and a three-point shooting percentage of .329.  She was tied for the team lead with 2.2 steals per game and was in the top three on the team in assists and rebounds.  She played heavy minutes for the Wildcats and helped them post ten wins in their inaugural season.

USCAA Division II Coach of the Year Coach Jim Casciano joined the men's basketball program in July 2014 and immediately began to build a winning program.  He recruited in talented transfer and freshmen players to add depth to the team, and he has created a new team culture at JWU.  At 19-10, the team has posted its first winning season in program history and earned its first berth to the USCAA National Basketball Championships.

JWU Athletics congratulates these four Wildcats on their achievements this season.  The men's team will be in action Thursday, March 5 at 3:15 PM as they open tournament play against #5 Penn State York.  Watch the action live through the live stream here.  Live stats are available online here during the game.  Updates and full information on the tournament can be found at the tournament website.  Go Wildcats!
