Men's Basketball Opens Season with Victory over College of Faith

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team used a strong defensive effort to claim a 70-49 victory over College of Faith in JWU Tip-Off on Friday.

Senior Rickey Porter finished with a double-double for the Wildcats (1-0), posting 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead all players.

Porter and Jayvoine Parker (12 rebounds) helped Johnson & Wales claim a 20-5 advantage in second chance scoring, while the Wildcats held College of Faith to just 27 percent shooting on the night.

Deiontae McMillian added 11 points for Johnson & Wales off the bench.

College of Faith was led by reserve Herbert Bowen with 12 points.

The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they host Virginia Lynchburg in the finale of the JWU Tip-Off.  Play is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
