Charlotte, NC - Senior forward Rickey Porter became the all-time leading scorer in Johnson & Wales men's basketball history as the the Wildcats held off Columbia International University 83-71 on Monday at the Wildcat Center.
Porter's layup with 7:28 remaining in the first half - part his game high 25 points - moved the reigning USCAA Player of the Year into first place all-time in the program's record book and eclipsed former teammate Josh Cohen's career scoring mark of 1,185.
Porter finished 12-of-19 from the field along with 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (3-6), who snapped a five-game losing streak.
The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the field on the night and led nearly wire-to-wire, with Columbia International's only lead coming just 1:39 into the contest.
JC Calvin led the visitors with 23 points, including a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Ryan Gibson (13 points) and Juraj Rovis (12) were the only other players to reach double figures.
The Wildcats will resume play on Friday when they travel to Montreat, NC, to play NAIA program Montreat College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
