Men's Basketball Splits Final Two Games of South Classic

Kissimmee, FL - The Johnson & Wales men's basketball split its final two games of the Johnson University South Classic, defeating host Johnson University 95-94 in double overtime on Friday and losing 78-69 to Welch College on Saturday.

Senior forward Rickey Porter posted double-doubles in each contest for the Wildcats (5-10), finishing with 35 points and 14 rebounds against Johnson University and 17 points and 13 rebounds against Welch.

Against Johnson, the Wildcats let a 10 point lead in the second half slip away and trailed with just seconds remaining.  Junior Alcyone Moore was fouled shooting a three-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining in the contest and made two of three free throws to send the game into overtime.

In the second overtime, Moore would come up big from the charity stripe again, sinking both free throws with 1:20 remaining to give Johnson & Wales the lead for good and earn the team its first win of the tournament.

Moore finished with a season high 21 points, including a 9-of-11 performance from the line.  Majerle Poole and Deiontae McMillian also reached double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Porter, who led all scorers, finished 12-of-21 from the field and 11-of-15 from the free throw line.

Against Welch, the Wildcats struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 35 percent for the game and just 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Porter once again led all scorers while Poole (15 points) and Moore (13 points) finished in double figures.

Johnson & Wales will return home to the Wildcat Center on Tuesday when they host Morris College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
