Men's Basketball Outlasts Morris in Home Victory

Charlotte, NC - Rickey Porter recorded his fourth double-double in eight days as the USCAA #18 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team held off NAIA foe Morris College 80-73 at the Wildcat Center.

Porter led the Wildcats (6-10) with 20 points and 14 rebounds to record his seventh double-double of the season.

Freshman Alcyone Moore chipped in with 17 points for Johnson & Wales while Majerle Poole (14 points) and Davian Bryan (10 points) also reached double figures.

Morris guard Darius Russel led all scorers with 29 points, including 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.

The game stayed tight throughout, with Morris pulling within a point with just 2:11 remaining on a layup by Jamond Silverman.

However, a pair of crucial baskets by Christian Creswell and several free throws by Poole over the next minute and a half stretched the lead to 75-68 for the Wildcats and prove decisive.

Johnson & Wales resumes play on Friday when they host in-state USCAA foe Mid-Atlantic Christian University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m at the Wildcat Center.
