Charlotte, N.C. - The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team snapped a nine-game losing streak on Saturday, holding off NAIA foe Morris College 80-78 at the Wildcat Center.
Johnson & Wales led nearly the entire way and held an 11-point second half lead, but gradually allowed Morris to get back into the game. A pair of free throws by Frederick Brown gave Morris a 74-72 lead with 2:45 remaining, their first lead since midway through the first half.
The Wildcats quickly responded with a three-pointer by Madden-McAfee and a dunk by Poole to reestablish the lead and send Johnson & Wales on its way to victory.
Russell led Morris with 15 points on the afternoon.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Tuesday when it hosts Bob Jones University at the Wildcat Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
