Swannanoa, N.C. - USCAA #7 Warren Wilson College scored 68 second half points as the Owls held off the visiting USCAA #19 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team 115-110 on Saturday.
Johnson & Wales (4-12) was led by Majerle Poole with 24 points while Caleb Coleman (22 points) and Kajuan Madden-McAfee (21 points) also had strong offensive performances as well. Robert Hobson was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures with 11 points on the night.
Warren Wilson's Marques Sullivan led all scorers with 33 points.
It was the highest scoring output by Johnson & Wales all season, but still wasn't enough to lift the team to its first win over a ranked opponent this year. The Wildcats allowed Warren Wilson to shoot nearly 59 percent from the floor in the second half, including 10 three-pointers. In all, the Owls (11-9) connected on 18 threes on the night.
Johnson & Wales trailed most of the second half, but pulled to within two on Poole's three-pointer with 46 seconds remaining to make it 110-108. The Owls quickly responded, however, with a three by Lukas Juozapavicius and a pair of free throws by Sullivan to secure victory.
The Wildcats will resume play on Thursday when they travel to Greenville, S.C., to play Bob Jones University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
