Columbia, S.C. - Majerle Poole finished with a game high 27 points and eight rebounds as the USCAA #18 Johnson & Wales men's basketball team won 91-84 at Columbia International University on Saturday.
Poole, a Columbia native, marked his homecoming with an 11-of-18 performance from the floor for the Wildcats (5-13). The win marked the second time the Wildcats have defeated Columbia International this season, following an 84-69 victory at the Wildcat Center in November.
The Wildcats were markedly more efficient on Saturday than they have been in recent games. The team finished with 16 assists while committing a season-low eight turnovers. Furthermore, the team shot a season-high 50 percent, connecting on 32-of-64 from the floor and 14-of-28 from downtown.
The 14 made three-pointers matched a season high for the team.
Johnson & Wales trailed 46-45 at intermission, but opened up with a three-pointer by Madden-McAfee and never trailed from that point on. The Wildcats led by as many as 12 midway through the half and held on for their fifth win of the campaign.
Jacob Cook led Columbia International with 23 points.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Monday when it travels to Laurinburg, N.C., to play NAIA foe St. Andrews University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
