Men's Basketball Comes Up Short In EMAC Final

Charlotte, NC - The JWU men's basketball team was back in action on Saturday. A wild and crazy EMAC men's championship game ended with the Wildcats falling 77-75 to Clinton College.

The game had 8 ties and 17 lead changes. The Wildcats started the game fast, quickly going up 6-2. From there the Wildcats would stretch the lead slightly to 7 points and were able to sustain multiple runs from the Golden Bears. Then, with 6:34 left in the first half, Clinton took its first lead, 22-21. A minute later, JWU was back on top, 26-24, and stayed on top going into halftime with a 39-37 advantage. The Wildcats continued to hold Clinton off for the first five minutes of the sceond half, but the Golden Bears tied it up at 46 with 15 left to play. The teams would battle back and forth until Clinton took a 57-56 with 12 minutes remaining. From there CC would stretch its lead to 8 points.

Clinton led 68-61 with just over 8 minutes remaining. From that point, the Wildcats went on a 12-4 run to take a 73-72 lead with 3 minutes to play. With 46 seconds to play, JWU held an 75-74 lead. A Clinton free throw tied the game up at 75. After a JWU missed shot, the Golden Bears drew a foul and converted two free throws to take a 77-75 lead. The Wildcats got a final shot off in the last seconds of the game, but it missed the mark.

It was a valiant effort from the Wildcats, as Clinton held the advantage in points in the paint (36-22), bench points (46-10), and rebounding (47-35). Robert Hobson finished with 25 points, followed by Majerle Poole with 17 and Kajuan Madden-McAfee with 14. Poole added 4 steals and 4 assists while Jackson Baylark tallied 5 blocks. Christian Creswell finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

The USCAA unveiled the national tournament qualifiers on Saturday, and the Wildcats will enter the tournament at PSU Fayette as the #5 seed and will take on #4 Southern Maine on Sunday, March 3rd at 8:00 pm.
