Charlotte, NC- The Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's and Women's Basketball teams have both been ranked in the USCAA's first D2 Coaches Poll of the 19-20 season. The JWU women's team debuts at #11, while the men's team was voted #1 for the first time in program history.
Women's Basketball has a record of 4-3 with wins over two NCAA DIII programs and one NAIA program. Their largest victory of the season came when they defeated SC Faith A&M 131-30. The 78-75 win over Pfieffer was an incredible effort by a shorthanded Wildcats team down to four players at the end of regulation due to injuries. Justice Wallace is averaging 14.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg while Ineesha Hankerson adds 12.9 ppg and 11.6 rpg. Hankerson led the Wildcats to victory over Salem College with a 21 point 20 rebound effort.
JWU plays at Wake Tech on December 10th before heading to Buffalo, NY for games against #2 Villa Maria on December 13th, and USCAA D1 Bryant & Stratton (Buffalo) on December 15th. The Wildcats return home for their only December home game on the 18th vs SC Faith A&M. Tip off is set for 6:00 pm.
Men's Basketball is 6-1, with their lone loss of the season coming against NCAA D1 opponent UNC-Wilmington. The Wildcats are averaging 95.7 points per game and their largest victory came in their 117-61 win over SC Faith A&M. Robert Hobson paces the Wildcats with 19.6 ppg including 41.7% from three. Hobson's season so far is highlighted by a 31 point performance where he tied a school record with 9 threes. Majerle Poole averages 16.7 ppg followed by Zyrion Wilkins with 12.4. CJ Miller and Antonio Smith lead the team in rebounding with 7.1 and 7, respectively.
The Wildcats next head to Florida where they will matchup with two NAIA programs. They take on Johnson & Wales North Miami on December 14th, in the first meeting between the two JWU campuses in six years. They conclude their trip against Ave Maria University on the 15th. JWU returns home for a game vs SC Faith A&M on December 18th at 8:00 pm before they go back on the road for a game against NCAA D1 Campbell on December 21st.
