Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Men's Basketball hosted Johnston Community College on Sunday, only one day after defeating Regent University at home. The Wildcats completed the weekend sweep, defeating the visiting Jaguars 101-75. The 100 point effort for the #3 ranked team in USCAA D2 marked the fifth such performance of the season, a new program record.

JCC scored the first three points of the game, but the Wildcats quickly answered with a 17-0 run and never looked back. Majerle Poole, Robert Hobson, and Brandon Kostyk combined for 42 of JWU's 50 first half points as the Wildcats held a 50-28 lead at halftime. The second half was a more competitive affair, but Poole's 16 helped JWU outscore the Jaguars 51-47.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Jags 47-27 and outscored them 44-28 on points in the paint. JWU also won the turnover battle 19-9, converting the 19 turnovers into 26 points compared to only 3 for JCC. 9 turnovers is a season low for the Wildcats. The Wildcats also went 19 of 25 from the free throw line compared to 7 of 14 for Johnston.

Malik Bullock had 10 assists for the Wildcats, one shy of the school record. Poole led all players with 31 points, while Hobson added 19 and Kostyk added 15. CJ Miller added 3 steals and 2 blocks for JWU. Bullock, Poole, and Zyrion Wilkins all pulled down 8 boards and Hobson and Antonio Smith had 7 each.

"Can't say enough about how proud I am of our group today. By far the best team game we have played all season and against a really good Johnston team," commented JWU Head Coach Dan Larkin after the win. "Malik Bullock displayed the quintessence of what we preach in our program about getting paint touches and making plays for others. His 10 assists and 8 rebounds was one of the better all around performances I have seen in my time here. There isn't a better core of scorers than Rob Hobson, Majerle Poole, Brandon Kostyk and Zyrion Wilkins. 2 guys that don't get enough credit in the box score are CJ Miller and Antonio Smith who are as elite as it gets in anchoring our defense. Really happy with the growth of our team this weekend!"

The Wildcats return to action on January 15th when they travel to Morris College for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
