Rock Hill, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Basketball Team concluded their regular season conference schedule on Saturday. The Wildcats dropped the game to the Golden Bears 106-76, their first EMAC loss of the season.
Clinton (12-10) jumped to an early lead, leading 17-7 with 12 minutes to play in the first. The Wildcats went on a 16-6 run and tied the game at 23 apiece on a PJ Gill three with 6 minutes left. The Golden Bears answered with a 21-7 run of their own to give Clinton the lead 44-30 at halftime. The Golden Bears,who entered the contest ranked #13 in USCAA D1, extended the lead with a 62-46 second half. The result moves JWU's conference record to 7-1 and Clinton's to 4-4.
JWU (22-4) outshot CC from the field, 47.4% to 46.5%. The USCAA D2 #1 Wildcats also held the advantage in bench points, 22-11. The biggest difference in the game came at the free throw line, where Clinton shot 43 free throws, converting 36. Clinton's Cameron Shannon led all scorers with 54 points, including 19 at the free throw line. JWU made 17 of their 27 free throw attempts. Majerle Poole led JWU in scoring with 20 points, followed by Brandon Kostyk with 19. Robert Hobson and Gill each added 12.
JWU concludes the regular season on Sunday, February 23rd with a rescheduled game at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College at 4:00 pm.
