R.J. Reynolds Standout Mars Continues Hoops Career at JWU

CHARLOTTE, NC-- Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Basketball Coach announced Jaben Mars as the newest member of the 2020 recruiting class. Originally from Somerset, New Jersey, Mars graduated from R.J. Reynolds in Winston-Salem, NC and played for the Demons coached by Billy Martin. After averaging 13.4 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game his senior year, Mars was recognized as Central Piedmont All-Conference, Honorable Mention All-Northwest, and All-State Seniors 3rd team. While he recognized many coaches in his development, he singled out Coach Randy Little: "He was on of the assistant coaches who pushed me to be great. He coached me on multiple fundamentals and skills." Mars played his AAU basketball for Team Winston.

"I chose Johnson & Wales because it stood over every college," commented Mars on why he chose JWU. "It made me feel comfortable and that I didn't have to worry, and also had the major I wanted."

Jaben is the son of Alicia and Benny Mars. The former Student of the Year and A/B Honor Roll student plans to major in Sports Management.

"I am extremely excited about Jaben joining our program this Fall," said Coach Larkin. "He was exactly what we needed to finish out this class: someone with unbelievable versatility on both sides of the ball and huge upside."
