Charlotte, NC – While collegiate golf has been postponed across much of the nation, high level amateur tournaments are still being held to provide playing opportunities for college players this Fall. Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Golf team members Logan Jarrett and Paul Ackerman participated in two such of these amateur tournaments this week.
Ackerman, from Cumming, GA, took part in the GCAA Rivermont Amateur, held at Rivermont Golf Club in Johns's Creek GA. It was a 54 hole event played on Sept. 12th and 13th. Ackerman shot rounds of 82-77-85 (244) en route to a 72nd place finish. He ended his second round with an eagle on the 545 yard par 5 twelfth hole at Rivermont. Ackerman bested players from traditional Division I golf power Florida State, as well as NAIA Faulkner University, and NCAA D-III Oglethorpe.
Jarrett played in the Golfweek True Blue Amateur at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawley's Island, SC on Sept. 13-15. It is part of the Golfweek Fall Series, and featured some of the top collegiate golf talent in the Southeast. The Concord, NC native shot rounds of 80-89-81 in his first event as a collegian, good enough for 88th place. He too finished in style by posting a birdie on his 54th hole of the tournament.
