Men's Soccer Improves to 3-0 with Victory at USC-Lancaster

Lancaster, SC - Five different players scored as the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team won 5-0 at USC-Lancaster on Thursday.

The Wildcats (3-0) have yet to concede a goal this season and have now gone over 436 minutes of play dating back to last season without allowing a goal.

"First and foremost, well done to our backline to get another clean sheet," said head coach James Drzewiecki.  "For me, that's really a highlight and a sign that they are coming together well.  We obviously have a number of new players back there this year, so to get off the mark this well is a great achievement.  You look at freshmen like Danny Kearney and Gavin Brundidge coming in and immediately fitting in with our returners, and that's no small matter.  The other thing that I'm happy about is that our goals our coming from a variety of sources, not just one or two players.  There's still a long list of things we can improve, but all in all, the guys have done well to start the season with some strong results."

Jalen Jackson scored his USCAA leading fifth goal of the season less than 10 minutes in to open the scoring, latching onto a long ball from JT Fucci and firing past Lancaster goalkeeper Miguel Barron for a 1-0 lead.

He would then turn provider, finding himself in behind the Lancaster backline before laying the ball off for Imani Washington's sharp finish 23 minutes in.

In the second half, Tito Villanueva would pad the lead with his first goal of the season, taking a through ball from Weeb Isaac in the 53rd minute and finishing near post.

Fucci added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, heading home Pablo Morera's corner kick, and Isaac capped the scoring in the 87th minute, sending home a rebound after his initial penalty was saved by Barron.

Goalkeepers John Lowes and Kennedy Little combined for three saves for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will tavel to Sumter, SC, on Friday to take on USC-Sumter.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
