Takoma Park, MD - A testy affair on the road saw the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University emerge victorious over NAIA team Washington Adventist University, 2-0.
After a physical and scoreless first half, the Wildcats (2-0) came out firing in the second half. Chris Garcia scored the game winning goal after a darting run into the box to get on the end of a Brandon Greene pass.
The 69th minute brought the second goal for JWU. Julio Pena punted the ball into Weeb Isaac in the attacking half. Isaac did the rest, creating space for himself before his near post finish. WAU (0-1) fought hard to get back into the game, but Pena came up big in goal for the Wildcats.
"The game got a little chippy, and it distracted from the quality of the two teams on the field. WAU is a high caliber side, and I'm ecstatic to get the difficult road win. We faced some adversity today, but were able to overcome. Overall, I'm more impressed every day with the persistence and character of this group of men."
JWU will face the Shock again on Oct. 18, but play next on Sept. 14 at Bob Jones University. Game time is set for 8:00 pm.
