Pineville, NC - JWU Men's Soccer Team collected their fifth win of the season as they defeated Toccoa Falls College, 4-0.
It was a defensive struggle for the first 20 minutes of the match. Then Chris Garcia finally broke though on a Weeb Isaac assist in the 20th minute. It was Garcia's second game-winning goal of the season. It didn't take long for #1 ranked JWU to strike again, as Tito Villanueva fired the left footed shot into the side netting on the cross from Brandon Greene. JWU went into halftime with that 2-0 lead over TFC (4-5).
The Wildcats (5-0) wasted no time in the second half. Two minutes in, Isaac again split the defense with a pass to a running Sam Fanning. Fanning's deft touch took him around the Screaming Eagles' keeper before he buried the ball in the net. JWU finished the scoring in the 70th minute when Garcia stepped up for a free kick. He found a streaking JT Fucci whose header was parried by the Toccoa Falls keeper. Shawn Geiger pounced on the loose ball and put Johnson & Wales up 4-0.
"It was really hot out here today, and I think our depth carried us," recounts Head Coach Matt Payne. "I tell the guys all the time that the strength of this squad is the quality of our depth. Well, we really needed that today and I'm glad everyone got involved and played a role in a great win for us."
The Wildcats' next contest is on Oct. 1 as they travel to Piedmont International for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
