Front Royal, VA - JWU's Men's soccer team traveled to Christendom College for a showdown of top 5 USCAA D2 teams. The game matched the two top teams in USCAA D2 in terms of winning percentage, but it was the Wildcats of JWU who came away with the 4-0 win.
#1 Johnson & Wales scored the only goal of the first half as Sam Fanning found a streaking Weeb Isaac down the left flank. The aggressive Isaac drove the ball to the endline before serving the ball to Tito Villanueva for the one-time finish. Christendom (5-2) would rally to find a few opportunities of their own, but JWU goalkeeper Julio Pena was up for the challenge as the half ended 1-0.
The second half seemed to open up for JWU as the #4 Crusaders searched for the equalizer. 5 minutes into the second half, Imani Washington doubled the lead for the Wildcats (7-0) on a curling shot inside the back post. His brother Iseiah Washington scored the third goal of the day for JWU when he headed home a Shawn Geiger throw-in. Josiah Davis capped the scoring for the Wildcats on a finish from another Fanning pass.
Head Coach Matthew Payne on the win, "I knew going on the road twice this week against two high quality opponents would be tough. I'm really proud of all of the players that stepped up to help us come away with two solid wins. I'm excited to continue growing with this great group of student athletes!"
JWU next plays on Oct. 10 when they travel to Pfeiffer University for a 5:00 pm kick-off.
